Introducing the Semantic Visions Global Impact Index (GII) Dashboard

Author

Vy Ly Tuong

Semantic Visions has introduced the Global Impact Index (GII) Dashboard, providing a detailed overview of events across 15 key domains, including Financial Viability, Business Continuity, Information Security, Geopolitical Situations, and Business Expansion, among others. This dashboard is designed to help users comprehensively assess and understand the company’s broader risks and their performance.

The SV GII dashboard is designed to facilitate the analysis of this information across four key features:

  • Overview (1): Displays trends in the Global Impact indexes.
  • Benchmark (2): Enables comparisons between different companies and industries.
  • Top Movers (3): Highlights significant shifts in GII scores.
  • Detailed View (4): Offers a breakdown of each category within the GII framework.
Exhibit 1: Overview (1) – SV Global Impact Index Trend Over the Selected Period.

The Overview (1) tab of the Global Impact Index (GII) dashboard provides several key features to deliver valuable insights:

  • Line Chart: This graph displays the percentage change in index price along with the SV Global Impact Index, allowing users to visually track fluctuations over time.
  • Number of Identified Companies: Shows the total count of companies being monitored, offering a broad view of the dataset.
  • Number of Detected Events: Indicates the total events captured that could impact the indices, providing context to the changes seen in the charts.
  • Date Range: Users can specify the time period for the data they wish to view, making it easier to focus on relevant data.
  • Event Drill Down: This feature enables users to delve into specific events for more detailed information, aiding in understanding the reasons behind changes in the index.

An important functionality of this tab is its ability to help clients track how the SV GII index fluctuates over a selected period and explore potential correlations with the pricing percentage changes. This can provide insights into how external events or company actions may influence the company’s realization of business objectives and its perceived value.

Exhibit 2: Overview (1) – Event drill down on selected date

One standout feature is the event drill-down capability. For example, once a significant fluctuation occurs, users can select the relevant date of the fluctuation which opens a new tab detailing the events causing this fluctuation.

Exhibit 3: Overview (1) – Event drill down overview

This could show, for instance, a high volume of incidents related to Labor Accidents, with over 1,342 counts, helping users understand the specific challenges a company faced at that time. This level of detail is crucial for stakeholders looking to identify and address the underlying causes of index fluctuations.

In addition to showcasing overall trends, the SV GII dashboard allows clients to Benchmark (2) their scores with other companies or industries. This feature is crucial for understanding a company’s position relative to its competitors or within its sector.

Exhibit 4: Benchmark (2) – Comparison with selected peers

Companies that score higher than others can use this data to inform discussions with stakeholders and investors, potentially enhancing investment opportunities. Conversely, those with lower scores can pinpoint their relative standing and identify specific areas for improvement to strengthen their market position.

We also provide clients with the capability to monitor the most significant global media changes over time in the Top Movers (3) section, applicable to specific companies or across industries.

Exhibit 5: Top movers (3) – Performance changes
This functionality includes:
  • Viewing up to five of the top or bottom movers. In this summer month, the “Top 3 Movers by Industry in July” chart reveals that Consumer Durables, Health Technology, and Consumer Non-Durables experienced growth with increases of 73%, 44%, and 26% respectively. On the other hand, Utilities, Technology Services, and Communications faced downturns, declining by 51%, 67%, and 82% respectively.
  • Observing the percentage differences for all companies or industries.
  • Analyzing a scatter plot titled “Top 25 Movers by Industry,” which illustrates percentage improvements in GII scores across various sectors or companies. This visualization is instrumental in identifying which industries or companies have consistently high scores or have shown significant improvements, thereby offering insights into trends and shifts in GII performance.

Finally, the GII index equips our clients with comprehensive insights through a detailed scoring system. In the “Detailed View (4),” users can delve into both main and subcategories of the overall score, which highlights areas where selected companies excel or require improvement. For example, on the details page, you might see a company’s score broken down into subcategories like Ethical Practice, Business Expansion, and Innovation. Within each category, such as Ethical Practice, you can look into data points like “Packaging Best Practices,” which is a summary of all scores, totaling over 12,000, and “New Recycling Best Practices,” encompassing more than 8,000 scores.

Exhibit 6: Detailed View (4) – Event scoring drill-down
