Solid project management saves time, money and headaches

Marek Columby, David Exner

Semantic Visions, a leader in data analytics, continues its series of presenting its experts. We are pleased to introduce David Exner, Project Manager at Semantic Visions. He joined us in 2023 and has previous experience with product management and business analysis. He took some time to share his insights with us.

David, what is your responsibility in SV?

I am responsible for keeping projects up to date and running, mitigating risks, maintaining communication and making sure that responsibilities within the teams are clear, reporting projects status’, and helping with program management.

What is special about working for Semantic Visions?

I really enjoy working in a multilingual company, we have around 15 nationalities amongst us and also our data intelligence system operates in 12 different languages. I also appreciate the willingness of others to enhance the current systems and processes. Moreover, the atmosphere is very friendly and easy-going.

Can you name the most fulfilling recent project(s)?

SV is operating a huge infrastructure with hundreds of servers and hundreds of microservices. And every change, every innovation is an integration challenge. So I am working on projects that span from cost savings initiatives (such as moving from virtual servers to cloud), through technology migration projects (eg. moving from ontology to named entity recognition) up to completely new technology adoption (such as using  LLMs for fine classification).

What three emerging innovations do you see in your field?

Well, it must be the shift towards AI, for sure. I also witness new LLM models, use cases, improved HW and AI-driven products, all of them contributing to an increased efficiency and productivity. Way to go!

What is your answer to the ever-growing speed and amount of data we’re dealing with?

Indeed, the advance is super-fast. Semantic Visions is keeping pace, for one thing, improving our operations and delivery as we speak. This capacity to evolve is just an indicator of our expertise and focus. And of course, this translates into more reliable and valuable data that our clients base their decision on.

Project management in the IT industry involves a structured approach to planning, executing, and overseeing technology projects to achieve specific goals within constraints like time, budget, and resources. This includes defining project scope and objectives, coordinating cross-functional teams, managing software development lifecycles, ensuring robust testing and quality assurance, and deploying solutions. Effective IT project management also emphasizes agile methodologies, continuous integration and delivery, risk mitigation, and stakeholder communication to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet the desired quality and performance standards.

How do you wind down after a day in the office?

It is mainly sports like boxing or calisthenics, then walking around Prague and also enjoying good food and beer with friends… or it can be simply watching TV series at home.

David, thanks for talking to us and best of luck in all your future endeavors!
