Semantic Visions COVID-19 Geospatial News Tracker

Semantic Visions (SV), a data analytics and risk assessment firm, has created a geospatial tracker to visualize the spread of the novel Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 in the world’s online media from 1 January to 31 March 2020. 

Using its OSINT system, SV has been able to track global awareness of the pandemic from a few almost-imperceptible news stories at the New Year to the full-scale coverage seen by the end of March 2020.


The chart below shows the growth of online news articles covering COVID-19 worldwide from 1 January 2020 to 31 March 2020. The chart was created from articles that were published in over 750,000 online news sources in 12 major world languages, incl. Chinese. The total number of articles analyzed was 82,283,207.
